A science centre, which will cost R6 million, is in the process of being built in Newcastle in partnership with the Department of Education in KwaZulu Natal.
ArcelorMittal South Africa has spent R2 million on the renovation of one of the hostels. The objective is to have the premises ready to start operations later in 2011.
The Centre will provide science, mathematics and career guidance to learners from high schools in the Newcastle area. The project will be implemented gradually, starting with learners from grade ten during the first year, including grade eleven in the second year and then grade twelve during the third year.
