Colin Hautz - Chief Marketing Officer

B.A. Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

Prior to joining ArcelorMittal in 2003, Colin held various sales, marketing and business development positions within General Electric Plastics Europe. From 1999 to 2003 he was a senior manager for Accenture in Germany working on commercial and operational improvement projects for clients in the resources industries. Colin joined ArcelorMittal group corporate as a continuous improvement manager before becoming general manager for performance enhancement in 2005 where he led the implementation of global technical benchmarking, the knowledge management programme and the performance excellence awards. In 2008, he became general manager for market development and since 2013, Colin has worked as general manager strategy responsible for managing the group annual strategy cycle and capex planning process.


Freddie Swart - Chief Procurement Officer

Freddie holds a degree in Commerce and participated in various post graduate programmes in management development and continuous improvement.

Freddie’s career spans more than 30 years, of which 20 years has been in a senior management capacity in supply chain and procurement including strategy and governance. Most recently, he has fulfilled the role of chief executive officer for the Vesco Group. 


Vasco de Sousa - Chief Information Officer (Acting)

Vasco holds a qualification in Electrical Engineering, an MBA from the University of Witwatersrand as well as certifications in project management and IM specialisations.

Vasco has held various roles in the Information Management function at ArcelorMittal South Africa team and is currently managing the IM portfolio for Gauteng Operations as well as MES Centre of Excellence. 


Jake Olivier - Chief Operating Officer

Jake holds a B. Mechanical degree and a Master’s in Business Administration from North West University

Jake Olivier’s has over 22 years’ experience within the manufacturing industry, has held various executive positions and served on various management committees and boards as chairman and director, including various positions at ArcelorMittal South Africa in operations, procurement and logistics.

Sedick Achmat - Chief Human Resources Officer

BEng Mechanical University of Cape Town (UCT), MBA UCT

Sedick joined ArcelorMittal, Saldanha Works on 1 December 2007. He gained experience in numerous positions since 2007 in engineering, human resources and operations including the positions of Manager Human Resources and Plant Manager Rolling at Saldanha Works.

Joined ArcelorMittal South Africa in February 2015. Previously held various professional and management positions in Eskom.

Adinda Louw - Senior Manager, Global Assurance

BCom Accounting (Potchefstroom University), MAP (University of the Witwatersrand) EDP (Kellogg), MBA (North West University).

Joined ArcelorMittal South Africa in August 1993. She has held a number of managerial positions before being appointed as Group Manager, Internal Assurance, in 2008. Completed her articles at KPMG.


Werner Venter - Executive Manager, Vanderbijlpark Works

Werner joined the company in 1987 as a Bursary holder and then Engineer in training at Vanderbijlpark Works. He has held various engineer and senior engineer positions within Vanderbijlpark Works. Since 2000 Werner held several managerial positions in the Hot Rolling area. On 1 January 2011 he was appointed as Works Manager Hot Rolling.


Jacques Kotze - Executive Manager, Newcastle Works

Jacques holds an engineering degree in Metallurgy as well as an MBA from Henley University.

Jacques has an extensive background with 20 years in the metals industry and has held various senior management roles with Columbus Stainless Steel in the technical, downstream as well as upstream areas of the business. He is currently upstream works manager at Newcastle and has been acting in the role of General Manager since June 2019. 


Juan Pedro Jimenez Navarro - Senior Manager, Saldanha Works

Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering , Polytechnic University of Valencia

Juan Pedro has more than 20 years’ experience in the Steel making industry and has held various managerial positions during that time. His most recent position was that of chief operations officer, Finishing, for ArcelorMittal Galati in Romania. Prior to this, Juan Pedro held the position of CEO ArcelorMittal Skopje, Macedonia as well as roles in production and engineering management in France, Spain and Brazil. of Valencia..


Gregory Walters - Senior Manager, Gauteng Operations

Greg holds a qualification in Mechanical Engineering and has participated in a number of senior and executive management development programmes.

Greg’s career spans 26 years and includes various senior management roles including that of different units in Vereeniging and Pretoria and is currently the acting head of the Gauteng Operations business. 


Peet Snyders - Senior Manager, Coke Operations

Peet holds an engineering degree in Metallurgy and participated in various management development and continuous improvement programmes.

The various coke making units at Newcastle, Vanderbijlpark and Pretoria will be consolidated into a new operating unit and Peet Snyders has been appointed to manage the new coke making business at ArcelorMittal South Africa. Peet has held various roles during his career related to coke making operations including the management of the operations, refurbishment and construction of new coke plants internationally. He further has extensive experience in project management, business development as well as raw materials and supply chain optimisation.

Cobus Muller - Senior Manager, Highveld Operations

B. Eng (Electrical), Government Certificate of Competency

Joined ArcelorMittal South Africa, formally known as Iscor in 1984 as an Engineering bursar. During his career he held several positions at Vereeniging Works, Tubular products and Vanderbijlpark Works including Maintenance Manager Vaal Meltshop, Plant Manager Vaal Rolling Mills, General Manager Tubular Products and Works Manager Hot Rolling. He was appointed as Group Manager Tubular Products on 1 September 2014.

Cobus Muller will assume responsibility for managing the Highveld Operations in preparation for the complete acquisition of that business. Cobus moves from his role as head of Gauteng operations including Vereeniging units as well as the Small Section Mill.


Charlton Whitcher - Executive Manager, Technology

CTW Whitcher, General Manager Long Steel Products, BSC Electrical Engineering, MBA, GCC, Pr Eng.

Joined ArcelorMittal in August 1998 as a graduate engineer. He served as Maintenance Manager Coke Making, Production Manager Coke Making and Plant Manager Coke Making before been appointed as Group Manager Tubular Products in 2012. In 2014 he was appointed as Group Manager Vereeniging Works. When the Vereeniging and Newcastle Works combined to form one Long Steel Products business unit in 2015, he was appointed as Deputy General Manager of the newly formed BU.

Charlton has held various senior and executive roles within ArcelorMittal South Africa, most recently that of General Manager Newcastle Works and is currently managing the productivity workstream of the Business Transformation Programme.


Dieter Sauer - Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Environmental

Industrial Psychology degree (masters) University of North West, Management Diploma (Wits), Registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa, (HPCSA), Qualified Electrical Artisan (Red Seal).    

Dieter Sauer is an industrial Psychologist with more than 33 years working experience, including expertise in health, hygiene, wellness, safety, risk management, environmental management and HR. He spent the last 16 years in various general management positions at ArcelorMittal South Africa. His previous positions include SHERQ Manager Vanderbijlpark works, HR Manager Vanderbijlpark Works and Gauteng HR Manager. Technical Supreintendent, Planner electrical and mechanical at Rolling Vanderbijlpark Works.
